Deep and green
Small paws scurried in the underbrush
Brightly colored wings filled the trees

There used to be a forest here
Alive with sound
As the chirps, rustles and whispers
Wove themselves into a symphony of life

Now it’s a graveyard of ashes
Where only the wind whistles
Its malevolent spells

Until the Fire
The ravaging flames
Turned all the green to black

But all that’s left
Are burned out shells
Like fallen warriors left for the crows

All that’s left are burned out shells

The PheonixTo the east, in far off lands
Amid the burning, shifting sands
A beauty splendid to behold
She flies on wings of red and gold

A daughter of the sun is she
A lady of the brave and free
She sings the cycle of the earth
Of life and death, and then rebirth

She rides the wind on flaming wings
Her plumage like the robes of kings
Every thousand years she burns
But from the ashes she returns

She is hope personified
The immortal soul inside
That burns, and burns, burns again
But always rises in the end

To the east, in far off lands
Amid the burning, shifting sands
A wonder from the tales of old
The Phoenix flies on wings of gold

A rose we stole from the neighbors. It was pretty funny, a stem from my neighbor's rosebush grew between the cracks in the fence and the rose bloomed in our garden.
